Improving the world’s IQ by 10 points
yep, it’s easier than you think. This is exactly what a group of
paediatricians think is possible when they looked at brain development in the
first 1,000 days of life. They found that poor nutrition globally, including poor
areas in wealthy countries is leading to infant deficiencies of iodine, iron, and
zinc. And these three nutrients are critical for brain development and by
brain development we’re talking about the ability to perform complex thinking
or movement tasks. Deficiencies in iodine, iron, and zinc are linked to long term
mental health issues then this impacts education and employment opportunities
and the cycle continues. The paediatricians believe that if we could
get things in check worldwide the average world IQ would be 10 points
higher. Whaaaaaaat!!!! For people with an already low IQ this would be a huge relative increase I get it IQ isn’t the be-all and end-all of intelligence Cos I got street smarts bro! but it’s a useful population measure in this context. Once again the
simplest of changes can have the largest of impact. Full article in the descirption. You’ve just been scienced.
